KPI innovation improves operator safety at JCB and makes Project of the Year

K.P.Industries have completed what has been described as the ‘project of the year’ at JCB Cab Systems in Rugeley.

The installation of a power and free loading system provided a solution to minimise contact between fork lift trucks and operators loading fabricated cab frames to the paint line, whilst also improving operator ergonomics, particularly when reaching for the hanging points.

JCB was uncertain about certain aspect of the project because two other UK-based overhead conveyor suppliers had declined to put offer any solution due to the restricted amount of space available. However KPI’s innovative designs and ideas meant the project could be taken forward satisfactorily.

To provide JCB with total confidence before installation commenced at the Rugeley site, the new compact elevator was designed and modelled in 3D at the development stage. The unit was then manufactured in Rochdale and was fully tested before being delivered and installed at JCB Cab Systems..

’We were concerned whether the new elevating product loading system could fit in the roof space and if it could make a positive difference to our operators’’.

‘’However K P Industries’ innovation and design technologies reassured us that the project could be undertaken and would benefit our operators ergonomically. This gave us the confidence to take the scheme forward and throughout the project, we were kept updated on the design, development and manufacturing status of the system.”

“Once delivered, the installation team made an intricate job look simple, whilst adhering to JCB’s high standards of health and safety. The controls engineers integrated their wiring and PLC software into our existing system without any issues and the system was up and running ahead of schedule’’

‘’JCB is pleased with the installation and the improvement it has made to our site, and more importantly, to our operators. I would go as far as to say it counts as the most valued project of the year at JCB Cab Systems’’ Steve Jones JCB Paint Shop Manager
